Back to BlogMobile Games With Proximity Chat
By Brice Laville Saint-Martin, CEO of Antihero Studios
Mobile games with proximity chat are rarer than the search results suggest. A lot of what turns up when you look for it on mobile is squad voice: you hear your own team, wherever they are, and nobody else. Real proximity voice means the stranger twenty meters away can hear you too, and that changes what a match is.
Real proximity chat is rare on mobile: most mobile games ship squad voice, which only connects you to your own team. PUBG Mobile has an All voice setting that lets players outside your squad hear you, and Fortnite has proximity voice on Creative and UEFN islands whose creators switch it on. MISFITZ, the social extraction game by Antihero Studios, has no voice chat of any kind yet, squad or proximity. You can still team up with strangers, and Antihero Studios plans to add voice chat later.
The Short Answer
If you want strangers to hear you on mobile, look at PUBG Mobile with voice set to All, or Fortnite on Creative and UEFN islands that switch proximity voice on. Fortnite also took proximity voice into Battle Royale for a while, with Delulu, a limited-time mode that launched in September 2025. Call of Duty: Mobile keeps voice to your own team in team-based matches. The table below shows who can hear you in each game.
| Game | Voice | Who can hear you |
|---|---|---|
| PUBG Mobile | All or Team | On All, players outside your squad, enemies included |
| Fortnite | Proximity on some islands | Nearby players, on Creative and UEFN islands whose creators turn it on |
| Call of Duty: Mobile | Team | Your own team in team-based matches |
| MISFITZ | None yet (planned) | No one by voice yet: the friends list has text chat |
Squad Voice Is Not Proximity Chat
Squad voice connects you to your own team wherever they are. Proximity chat connects you to whoever is near you, including people who are not on your team. One is a coordination tool. The other is a social one.
That distinction is the whole thing. Talking to your friends while you play is familiar: a party chat, a squad channel, a Discord call. Talking to someone you have every reason not to trust, who can hear the exact moment your voice changes, is a different experience, and very few mobile games offer it. If your own squad is all you need, see our list of mobile games to play with friends.
Why It Is Rare on Mobile
Moderation is part of it: an open mic between strangers needs real safety tools behind it. But the bigger reason is design. A lot of mobile multiplayer is built on short matches with fixed teams, and in a short match against a team you will probably never meet again, there is little to say to an opponent. Proximity voice earns its place when the game gives strangers a reason to negotiate. Social deduction games run on the same idea, and our guide to mobile games like Among Us with combat looks at what happens when you add shooting.
That means stakes. Players need something to gain by cooperating and something real to lose when a deal falls apart. Without both, an open mic is mostly noise, which is why squad voice is the norm. Extraction games have both, and it's a big part of how extraction differs from battle royale.
Does MISFITZ Have Proximity Chat?
No. MISFITZ has no voice chat of any kind yet, neither squad voice nor proximity voice. We plan to add it later, and we'd rather say so than let a guide about proximity chat suggest otherwise.
MISFITZ is a social extraction game for mobile: you drop into a run with fifteen other players, loot Relics, and have to reach an extraction point to keep anything. Die before you get there and you lose it all. For now, the friends list has text chat, with Antihero emojis.
The stakes are already there, and so are the strangers. You can offer to team up with someone, and mean it, or not. Players team up and split up without a word said. What proximity voice would add is hearing the deal being made, and hearing the moment it falls apart, which is exactly why we want to build it.
Until then, breaking a team-up works as a mechanic, not as griefing: both players chose to team up, and either one can end it. For everything around a run (the lobby, graffiti, spectating a friend), here is more on playing MISFITZ with friends.
